| Mike started shooting and editing video in the very early days of video. The first video camera he bought was in 1979 when the big decision was to buy super 8 with sound or the new expensive Beta or VHS Video. Always on the cutting edge of technology, Mike thought VHS was the future. In retrospect he was right. A few years later this technology became more affordable to the general public. After shooting and editing thousands of hours of video and producing a series “In Your Own Backyard” of Oklahoma History for his daughter’s school, he was asked to teach an adult class on videography and editing.
Video became extremely popular and in turn provided many videographers. This is when Mike chose to focus on portrait photography, opening a studio in Colorado, and then in Kansas. In 2002 his sixth grade sweetheart talked him into moving back home. It was in October of that same year that Karen and Mike opened MK’s Photography in Stillwater.
After shooting hundreds of weddings, and having several requests for video, Mike and Karen decided to add video to their services. After investing in the top of the line video equipment and state of the art editing equipment, they discovered there was a big demand for video. “I bought the equipment for weddings, but suddenly began receiving requests to video family reunions, music videos, commercials, etc. I never dreamed the video division of our business would be so popular”. The video jobs keep pouring in with events like Stillwater High Schools homecoming events, a SYFA 5th grade game where MK’s produced a Monday Night Football like a video with announcer, color commentary, and interviews. “The Ideas are limitless. Mike says. “I have more ideas of how MK’s can utilize video in helping to capture time in life’s events.” Our dreams are to capture thoughts between two people engaged or a high school senior’s favorite loves whether it be music, best friends, memories, dreams.
