Mike and Karen Campbell started Mk’s Photography and
SportShots in October of 2002. The
business was first located in a spare bedroom of Karen’s house located out in
the country. Mk’s business grew steadily
and within 2 years they were forced to get a much larger building. This is when Mk’s Photography, LLC, was
developed and the location changed to 712 S. Main, downtown Stillwater.
Mike brought into the business an invaluable set of skills
and knowledge. He had his own studio in Colorado, specializing
in portrait and wedding photography. He
not only helped create but also helped build a sports photography business in Wichita, Kansas. Mike worked as a photographer, trained
photographers and managed the lab for the business for approximately 12 years.
In October of 2002, Mike and Karen both had full-time
jobs. Mike was still in Wichita and Karen was working for the
Oklahoma Career & Technology Education Department in Stillwater.
After 20 years at the Department, Karen resigned in June of 2003 to
begin working full-time in the new business.
Mike followed suit in March the following year.
Mike and Karen both come from large families and are very
personable. They believe in family and
helping others. Mike has 3 daughters and
one son and Karen has 1 daughter and 2 sons.
They have 14 grandchildren between the two of them and thoroughly enjoy
being Grandparents.
They are CASA’s (Court
Appointed Special Advocates) official photographer for Payne County. Karen realized after serving as a CASA
volunteer that this was a program her heart would always be engaged in to
serve, but just in a different capacity.
Mike’s main organization he chose to help with was the MYA Gonzales
Foundation. Mya Calls him Mr. Mike and
is extremely partial to him. He serves
as a Board Member and Photographer.
Their goal is to capture life’s precious happenings through
photography, enjoy it to the fullest, then spread it around and pass it down as
a legacy. They give God the Glory for
all the rich blessings he has bestowed upon them.
